About the chapter

Of the 200+ Alpha Tau Omega chapters nationwide, Gamma Upsilon ranks second for most consecutive True Merit Awards received (11) and has received 29 in total. The True Merit Award is given to any chapter that achieves a level of chapter operation (philanthropy, community service, recruitment, academic performance, and campus involvement) that is worthy of the recognition. Our strength comes from the diversity of interests found within our chapter, and we support each brother in staying involved on campus, from the Rocketry Club to intramural hockey. Gamma Upsilon holds all of them to the same standard and treats brotherhood as something you practice rather than something you join.

Chapter facts

Motto: Pi Epsilon Pi
Philanthropy: Our signature event, Stickfest, supports the Play for Paige 33 Foundation in the fall. Our spring event, Cones and Bones, supports The Boys and Girls Club of Ames.

Parking: There is a parking lot with 33 spots in the back of the house, available to any in-house member.
Alcohol: Alcohol permitted in the chapter house

How to join

IFC fraternities recruit informally 365 days a year, so there is no single sign-up week. Most chapters have a house south of campus, with room for roughly 29 to 89 members.
